White sauce pasta is one of the quick and easiest pasta recipes that anyone can make. You can make a simple plain classic white sauce pasta without any vegetables or make it more colorful and nutritious by adding some vegetables.

This creamy pasta in white sauce gets done in 15 to 20 minutes. Cooking whole wheat pasta takes about 10 to 12 minutes. When the pasta is cooking, you make the white sauce which takes about 8 to 10 minutes. So you cook the pasta and white sauce simultaneously. Later mix the cooked whole wheat pasta with the sauce and you are ready to serve the pasta.

This white sauce pasta video shows the method of making a creamy white sauce (béchamel sauce) and even cooking the pasta. The pasta has to be cooked till they are al dente (meaning they have a slight bite to them).

You can add your favorite fresh herbs or dried herbs in the pasta. If you plan to add vegetable, you can sauté them, steam them or roast them in an oven or pan. The vegetables that can be added are carrots, green peas, beans, cauliflower, peppers (capsicum), sweet corn, broccoli, zucchini or baby corn.

The pasta video recipe used penne pasta, but you can use macaroni, ziti, rigatoni, farfalle pasta.

For a vegan version use almond milk, vegan butter and vegan cheese.

For White Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon whole wheat flour or 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (maida)
1 cup chilled milk or 250 ml chilled milk
¼ teaspoon black pepper powder or add as required
A generous pinch of nutmeg or grated nutmeg
salt as required

For Cooking Pasta
1 cup penne pasta or 100 grams penne pasta
4 cups water
¼ teaspoon salt or add as required

Other Ingredients:
¾ to 1 teaspoon mixed herbs

OR herbs mentioned below
¼ teaspoon dry oregano
¼ teaspoon dried basil
¼ teaspoon dried thyme

For Garnish:
any fresh herb of your choice or some spring onion greens
vegetarian parmesan cheese or grated cheddar cheese - add as required (optional)
